titles suck

So i can’t really feel my fingers right now because I was working on some bouldering problems at the climbing gym and I am here to tell you that those are way harder on your hands than routes. This makes typing damm interesting (also I eschew the spell check so I actually have to use the BACKSPACE button and it’s way up there and my pinky is tired!) There was a couple of really nice guys and this cute little girl doing stuff too (also hubris) so the guys (who were really good [I see it’s round bracket day]) were giving us advice and she and i were working on stuff together.

I passed her my favourite stuff to work on and then we played in the cave a little. It was cool to just work on stuff with someone who isn’t that good at things. I’ve developped a theory for bouldering in the cave [the fairly upside down portion of the first bouldering area at my gym] and it goes like this. Who gives a shit if your back is on the floor if you’re figuring the moves out?

Ah-ha see? Only a female would consider that legitimate!

Or is that my misogy.. what the hell is it when i woman is being a misogynist about men? Hrm.… okay that didn’t work, misandrist. hunh i keep forgetting that word.

Okay anyway is that just me assuming things? Because it seems like a peculiarly female attitude in a culture where campusing (doing a route/problem with your hands and no feet) or doing pyramids is de rigeur. (pyramids you ask? get a belay slave [seriously people wikipedia!] and then go up and belay down and up and belay down 1,2,3,2,1 times on a route with 20 seconds rest between 1/2/3/2/1 {yeah nasty huh?}) I can’t comment on laps because I do them myself. Pyramids maybe maybe maybe.

Okay the point is I can’t see any of the guys I know being willing to lie on the floor and practise the move and assume that’s good enough to start. I feel like most of them would muscle through it just because they could. It’s just that I can’t and most girls can’t.

Anyway there was large falling and much fun and some damm fine traversing. I haven’t actually yakked about climbing in a while, didn’t want y’all to think I quit or something.

shit it’s three in the morning.

i had an 8 hour lunch date today. Hah bubblelicious get your brain back here! Put that thing on a leash girl!

Anyway toronto was looking particularly fine today so we took full advantage and went walking. Incidentally picked up the recovering smashingly from being spayed kitten at the vet. She still won’t tell me her name but I bet she stops peeing in my underwear. [ps if you have the laser option with pet surgery then take it… she’s bouncing around like 8 hours out of surgery and doesn’t even know she had it!]

Off to rugby tomorrow. I have no freaking idea what the rules are or anything. I just know it’s the championship and my friend is in it.
Okay off to read bubbles’ latest adventure and take my underslept ass and get it some sleep!

  1. I have decided to start climbing…

    … vicariously, through you.

I can’t wait until you go spelunking, just because I love the word spelunk. Do you think it originated from the sound the first few people who fell deep into a cave made? speeeeeee-lunk!!

  2. Wow, your gym sounds so much better than mine! And I go to the best gym around….
We dont have ANYTHING decent in this part of the world…(pout) except halfway decent weather, and who cares when youre bored to death! hehe

  3. Sass-
you naughty thing you. Tell me, what did your 8 hour lunch break entail? Anything I should capture in font? I am assuming it was not with the girl laying on the floor, working the moves?
    Dang, that would’ve been cool.

I *heart* you sass, truly… but you should really get more sleep love…. you’ll need it.
Although, at the same time, I truly appreciate the fact that you are nocturnal :)

Hope to rivet you tonight with the last installment of me escapades… it’s twisted and utterly uncomprehendable…
    You’ll love it.
Hey, will you teach my to climb?

  5. dzer: FESTERING! :)

    *clearing throat*

    okay onward…

i haven’t been spelunking but apparently othercat knows a great cave with a stream so when I go i’ll be sure to use the word spelunking repeatedly to make you happy. Because, after all it would be fun to spelunk or alternately to learn to spelunk or even to talk about spelunking or *giggling*

whitesgem it’s here and yeah it’s aweosme. but if it makes you feel better light strikes a deal went to a gym that’s not even as good as that one here and he’s all jealous too… i know y’all can move here!

oh bubbles i told you to get your mind on a leash :) we went for a walk… a really long walk, and a bookstore and some sushi and we sat around in parks. But I decided to let your imagination go walking because I figured you and your fonts would have more fun that way. I am, tragically, the classic nice girl. It’s very boring and you never get laid but whatfuckingever.

Although i confess I am sad that I haven’t taken my slight into girlsness out and played with it ever. AS for the girl on the floor? I would say ILLEGAL!!! [othercat would say 15 gets you 20!]

And I will teach anyone who asks to climb but I’m really not that good. Though I am starting to understand the leg twist reach thingy which I can’t explain unless you already know what it is.

    [spelunk spelunk spelunk!!]

  6. The only gym I can get to that has rock climbing is the one at Uni. I thought about going there and trying it out but I keep chickening out. I just have this horrible vision of me falling and looking up to find one of my students. I’d never hear the end of it.

  8. natalia: everybody falls, it’s the trying that’s fun. and remember… it’s not the things you do in life you regret, it’s the things you don’t do.

  9. The underground stream is still flowing, and if you’re woman enough to come along for our “he-man, women-hating weekend” I would be happy to show you. There will be excessive amounts of beer and scratching ourselves, so consider yerself warned.

    Spelunk this!… l’autre chat

  11. ok, sass.

i totally get that like an 8 hour lunch date has moved okcupid guy into the realm of Private Interactions Not To Be Discussed At Length On Blog. But, um, can we all at least know if it, like, went well? Was there kissing? Oh wait, sorry, none of my bees. Anyway, hoping you had a great time… What outfit did you where, at least?

    I’m so rude.

  12. hee
i wore my reading is sexy t-shirt (that wasn’t really fair to do to a scientist was it?) and my ubiquitous black shorts and my pink flip flops and my fucking cell phone.

And since when do you where things?

We had a lovely time and yapped for like 8 hours. Then he went home to finish and then defend his thesis. So I went climbing and made all the nervous energy go away.

actually i’m trying to figure out what i do and dont write about with people who i know for a fact read my blog. it’s weird. and there are a few things i wish to blog aobut that i feel uncomfortable actually writing about.

  13. i type ‘where’ since I got a tablet and sometimes it doesn’t do its telepathy all that well… the bugger.
btw, look, i lent it to steve. it’s cool. i won’t pass the car around like a bottle at a pre-teen party, man.
but you are right. insurance said i could lend it but i’d pay for whatever happened. so ok I’ll be careful.

  15. What a cool gym! I would LOVE to move there, if only.
*it’s not the things you do in life you regret, it’s the things you don’t do.*
What a great saying! May I keep it?(with kudos to you?)

    Comment by whitesgem — August 28, 2005 @ 6:20 pm | Reply

  16. you are welcome to keep it. i was watching tv one day and this really cheesy john stamos movie was on and that was advice he got from his grandmother about a lady.

so you can kudo me for remembering it but not for creating it :)

    and yeah nice gym huh?
