Well, when i was your age

Filed under: Uncategorized — sassinak @ 12:22 am

.
this post looked like fun so i stole the idea :)

In other words… I have more shit to blog about that I can’t discuss so here goes a distraction topic… I didn’t even go climbing today so I gots nothing there. Well band practise rocked.

Okay…
things that i loved when I was a kid.

– water skiing at our family camp (not a summer camp… an actual claimed piece of land my folks built an a frame on)

– boat trips on the lake with optional fishing

– getting a dog when i was like 12

– playing with crayfish in the creek at the end of our lake

– playing in lakes

– walking over to and showing up unannounced at my grandfather’s house. i still miss you papa and it’s been 25 years!

– skiing and skating and winter sports

– slip and slide

– watching lightning storms through a picture window and looking out at a big bay.

– family trips to dairy queen

– swedish berries when they were 1 cent each!

– family trips in general

– reading

– family dinners

– playing knights and princesses with the boy children of some family friends. It was great there was me, then a boy two years younger than me, his brother a year younger, my sister a year younger and the last boy two years younger… god we had fun.

– the first time i put my kick and stroke together at a swim meet and knocked 20 seconds off my best time for the 50 free.

– climbing around on blasting cliffs near our house or trees.

– comics for a quarter… and never more than fifty cents.

– playing matchbox cars or uno with the boy next door.

– trick or treating

– dodge the ball

– cartwheels and mudpies

– innocence

  1. fun, fun stuff!!

I was SO the dodgeball king. For a fat kid, I was amazingly agile and … dodgy. Also, I could catch anything thrown at me. Was banned from the game at school after I blasted 2 kids so hard they broke bones. Oops; didn’t know my own strength.

    Lakes and fishing! Yes!

Playing with girls? ewww! no way! not then! now? hmm … wanna come over and make mudpies, princess? *eyebrow wiggles*

dodgy dzer dodgy dzer *clears throat* yes okay.

    +10 for calling me princess
    -2 for eyebrow waggles

  4. I think what I love about when I was a child are things that I could not have understood then. How amazing is that there was a time when I wasn’t at all aware of everything that is wrong with the world? Granted some adults live in that fantasy…but those are the morons. I am glad I know no but it was nice not to know then.

  5. okay i guess you can have your -2 back since you were wriggling or wiggling and not waggling… i don’t know though i was pretty amused when i took off -2.

dude better men have tried :P

natalia i fully agree. that’s why i ended the post with the word innocence. it just seemed… apt somehow. i’m glad to be a maturing human, teh experience has been wonderful but i’m also delighted that there was a time that wasn’t true.

well for me it sort of was because i was the unpopular kid (to a level i can’t even beging to explain, my mom said i would come home and tell her stories and that she was amazed i still had the courage to speak)… still i didn’t understand the terribleness that this world can wreak on teh unsuspecting and i’m glad to have had that even for a short time …

  14. Hello fellow fisherman,

Did you know that 16% of the U.S. population goes fishing at least 16 days a year?

Did you also know that over 75% of the nations fishermen do not fish during “prime time”; fish feeding hours?

Those precious few moments before twilight can be absolutely magical. Even up until 11pm at night, the largest predators of any species feed ravenously.

Don’t believe me? Check out Daniel Eggertsen’s story, and a picture of a couple of his catches here : “Evening Secrets plus more”

I want you to do me a favor and try it out so I can see what you think of it, and if it works for you as well as it did for me.

You will be one of the first to try it out.

    Gone Fishin’,

    Neil
