on being a fickle bitch

.
which i are.

there i was all in love with these shoes and off i went to mec to try on every shoe in the store and see what i actually wanted. i was primed and ready and i had a hot credit card in my hot little hands. er hot is a metaphor and doesn’t imply that i stole someone’s cards.

yeesh think y’all would know me better by now.

well, first of all LSD’s shoes came third all around for fit and performance on my feet.

which is weird. why is it weird? because *after* he broke his shoes in they fit me perfectly… but the new ones at the store? sucked a little ass. (not as much as the mad rocks though)

weird huh?

even weirder is that his shoes that i couldn’t stand at the gym? felt awesome on. (not as awesome as the two i’m currently dreaming about but nonetheless…)

anyway so now i’m all in love with:
these shoes and with another pair of la sportiva’s i’ll display about six inches down from here.

so i do agree that la sportiva shoes are the ones for me but unexpectedly the testarossa’s just didn’t do it for me at the store. funny cause at the gym they rocked.

the shoes i did love:
were both about half a size too big and they didn’t have the right sizes in the store.

and?

and??!!??

NOT EXPECTED UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH!!!

that’s february you guys. talk about getting all hot and bothered for no reason. in fact? this is actually worse than askingoutus interruptus. WAY WORSE!

[seriously need to stop staring at the mec website and contemplating ordering shoes. really really need to try them ON first]

[back away from the mouse miz sass]

[no really back away]

god i wish it wasn’t such a bad idea to order things off the internet that you haven’t tried yet or i would SO have my shoes in a week.

dammit dammit dammit.

i waited months to buy shoes. i waited until i legitimately believed that my shoes were fucking up my climbing and not my feet. i waited until i really felt that i would actually be able to do that thing IF i had different shoes on my feet.

i even waited until i wanted shoes a size smaller than i was wanting in october.

and then?

yeah, bupkus.

[wanders back to mec page]

[drags self back here]

the only good thing about not buying shoes today? shoes they didn’t have at europe bound either? the only good thing?

yeah, if i had bought shoes today i would SO have gone climbing and my hands are pissed just from trying shoes on the shitty wall at mec.

look another post about shoes! bet you guys can’t wait for me to get this fucking shoe shopping crap over with! :)

  1. could you try on some stilettos too … just to break the pace up a wee bit? LOL

and kudos to you for still managing to exercise patience and discretion, to wait for a better shoe in the future instead of taking the first OK shoe that came along … hmm .. metaphor or what? LOL

and have you rented “The Eiger Sanction” yet? watch it and tell me all the climbing parts they get wrong! heh

  2. well the muiras and the testarossas are the climbing shoe equivalent of stilettos? uh… the barbarella pics are in platforms?

oh man the patience and discretion that is required here is SO frustrating. both shoes were so small an amount too big that it was borderline impossible not to do it.

you know people keep finding life metaphors in my shoe posts but honestly they’re mostly about shoes *grin* [though i finally got what bubbles was reacting to in the learned something shoe post]

no i haven’t… but i did see the princess diaries and they had some pretty bad climbing in that…

  3. Im pretty sure this was just shoes, though I had the same… thought that D had about a possible third-shoe metaphor.

    of course, im assuming but…

Yeah, you saw what I saw eh? tee hee…

*give in the the Mec, FEEL the mec*

    LOL huggs!

  4. dear sass,

i must admit that i too, share your fanatic obsession for the ‘right’ shoe. may i suggest http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/722104956/page/1.html
the best part about zappos is that there are free returns if something doesn’t fit or look just right…

so this is what you do…you get a friend in buffalo who you can send your shoes to since zappos doesn’t ship internationally, and then just take a little lunch break trip down there to pick up your shoes…and voila! shoes in 2 days instead of 3 weeks!

ok…yeah that may be a bit too much work…but it totally worked for me…i’m seriously a shoe bitch tho and zappos loves me.

    hearts,
    jenn

  5. Argh…I totally hate when that happens. I love options…I thrive in haveing a lot of little nuances to choose from. Not having options is stifling.

BUT…and a big but…is that having a lot of options also tends to make us all confuzzled. Options create chaos. Nuances become these huge obstacles to making a decision.

And then when you choose…they don’t have it…they won’t have it… blah blah.

I am totally in love with this poster called “Tate by Tube.” I found it on signals.com and was all ready to buy it when I notice it says that the item is backordered…BACKORDERED? BACKORDERED? Can we forwardorder it or something?

So I call the 1-800 # and I get India, of course, and they have no idea when the item will be back in stock. So, what good are they?

    I WANT MY BLEEDING POSTER!!!!

OK, I am trying to breathe.

  6. bubbles: i had this feeling regarding my last shoe post that you were seeing something that i hadn’t noticed so i read it to my neighbour… and he started laughing his head off by the end of it and suddenly it all became clear *grin*

do not tease me with the mec, they don’t have my shoe in stock anyway!

Jenn: it’s most tempting to order shoes to LSDs house and then just drop in and visit him to pick them up. course it isn’t buffalo and i’d have to make a weekend of it but lsd is cool and then there would be SHOES!

do you climb or just love shoes in general? oh my god this website has the best shoes. oh shit. [see i’m a shoe whore in general even though i prefer bare feet to anything]

it’s just difficult because of the border issue. i’m seriously into this plan let me tell you, mec isn’t even SURE when my shoes will come in… i just don’t know which pair i like more. hrm… LSD go check EMS for katanas in a 39.5 and muiras in a 39 please? :)

nat: i am so SULKING i can’t even tell you. hot little credit card. hot little hands. NO SHOES! damm them to hell!

the thing with climbing shoes is that you have to have a lot of options because they’re all made for a slightly different style of foot so consequently you have to try on 100 of them. it’s just i have man sized feet so my size is usually awol. (way fewer chicks climb then men)

i am so sad for you about your poster but i do totally sympathise. i’m really bad about wanting things NOW and not wanting to wait.

*hands nat a paper bag to hyperventilate into* :)

  7. sass: border issues? wtf?? i lived in guelph, would take an early day off work to drive down to buffalo to get my shoes from my friend’s place…would throw the boxes away while there, put the shoes in my purse and drive back home…so easy. never, ever got searched.

dude, no border issues will keep any self-respecting shoe whore from ‘the shoe’…seriously, it’s never been an issue. and zappos.com rules so hard, it’s impossible for me not to buy…just my 2c…ymmv.

    general purpose shoe whore,

  8. jenn: border issues = no friends in buffalo. closest friend to a border is LSD (who i’m fine with visiting but it does require a weekend…)

hell i can just cover them in chalk and throw them in with the rest of my gear :) (also if it’s more than 24 hours i can carry new stuff anyway)

i’m such a shoe nut… the only reason i’m not imelda marcos is poverty…

  11. 123shoes can get some ok stuff too.

You HAVE to try them on. These aren’t the clunky shoes that I love nor are they flipflops. If they don’t fit you’re gonna not use ’em to their ability.

Good luck on ’em. I have 3 more weeks before I see ortho guy who will tell me I can now climb.

Climbmax in Asheville has memberships for 33/mo unlimited bouldering!

  12. castu: if you guys don’t stop telling me about places to get shoes i’ll be too broke to pay my rent next month!

of course i have to try them on, it’s why i’m resisting ordering any of the 400 pairs i’ve found online. it’s why i’m randomly considering drives to other cities/countries in search of my shoes. it’s so wrong to be ready to plunk down cash for something and not be able to HAVE it!

your injury is really weird to me, you’re doing all sorts of stuff i would consider utterly contraindicated and yet you seem to be getting away with it.

that’s a cool deal… what if you want to do routes?

  13. I went to chiro before I left down, he was amazed, said that his original 7 week plan for me would be cut 3 weeks short. No pain in days, though I felt funny when I had to drag a box of paper over a surface. Odd, since I ripped 21 pullups a couple of hours before then did some rows without any pain. *shrug* I had some other physical stuff that left my R leg sorta odd feeling for about 5 minutes, who knows.

I can pay 50/mo for more advanced routes. I’ll opt for the Y, it’s not as cool but it’s part of my membership. Gotta find someone to climb with so I have a belay partner.

Froogle is another source, too. I’m not trying to spend you money, I’m trying to SAVE your money. :D

  14. wow cast that’s pretty amazing. weird as hell but amazing. are they going to send you to another mri? i just don’t see how a bone fragment just gets better but i certainly hope so.

does your chiro know the extent of your workouts?

if you’re getting any kind of symptoms then you’re probably masking with muscles that are tensing up for support… be careful cast i’m concerned.

froogle is cool but y’all have to consider the border issue when you don’t have friends in buffalo AND the exchange (much better now)

  15. The ortho dude said it was just herniation. *shrug*

Look at it this way. If you have 120.00 available for shoes and can get them for 90.00, you have 30.00 available for something else. :D

    Comment by castufari — January 5, 2006 @ 4:59 am | Reply

  16. cast: how is it just herniation if you can SEE the fragment?

um 150 for shoes and they cost about the same everywhere if you add in the shipping and handling or the tax or the drive to the us or :)

  17. I’ve tried on both pairs of shoes that you are currently in love with and for what it’s worth, I love the Muira’s. I thought that the Katana’s were very strong from the the toe down the inside edge but lacked support on the outside of my foot. It’s likely that we have different foot and leg muscles that would alter this for you. I know that you are really into the idea of non-lace ups, but strongly consider the Muiras. I’ve owned three pair, thats how much I like them. Also keep in mind that the Testorosa’s will likely break in to your foot as mine have. When I first buy a pair of shoes, there is no way I could ever hope to walk in them. By week two, they are simply an extention of my foot.

    Good luck!

  18. I’ll check around for Muiras in 39’s and Kat’s in 39.5. I might know a guy that can help.

  19. lsd: i lean pretty heavily toward the muiras but until i try them both in the right size i don’t really know. also the wall at mec sucks pretty hard for trying heel hooks and the like so you have to sort of guess.

all i know is that i fully did NOT want to take the muiras off and even though they were a little too big i just wanted to take them home anyway.

i like the laces on the muiras, they’re easy and quick. my current laces suck for taking shoes on and off a lot.

thing is the testarossas don’t actually fit. there’s bubbles under the heel and rubbing on the outside of my outer toes. and not the good kind. also mg was feeling up my feet in each shoe and declared them to have hot spots… and i kinda agreed with her after trying them against other shoes.

i HATE walking in new shoes. hate it.

i would appreciate your checking muchly. mec says a month for them to MAYBE show up. MAYBE!!
