do the hippy shake shake…

Filed under: Uncategorized — sassinak @ 11:59 am

so that was interesting.

i got to othercat’s house before band practise today and there was another one of those awesome voice mails on my machine.

“i guess you’re jamming” *click*

seriously love those messages. so far i’ve laughed at every one of them.

and firefox ate half a post so i’m going to bed.

okay so i called him back from othercat’s house and he’s all ‘me and my buddy are going dancing’ and i’m all ‘oh god house music’ but i’m also ‘i haven’t danced in months’ so i talk for a minute and then go ‘all right, i’m in’ and he goes ‘okay bye’ *click*

i can’t explain it but i love the way he communicates on the phone. i mean we’ve also had long chats but i love the ease of arranging things with him. yes, no bye and that’s it. i’m always laughing when i get off the phone.

and then othercat and i had a sumptuous dinner (red snapper and stuffed mushroom caps and all) and headed off to jam. can i just tell you how awesome the band is? i can’t figure out why i’m in it but i’m sure grateful because these folks can PLAY!

in fact svdw and i are three times the drummer together that we should be. like i’m 40% and she’s 40% but together we’re a hundred. or something like that. and last night we girls were ON. like we started several jams and kept some stuff going and were just playing off each other so well.

in fact we may get together and jam just the two of us.

anyway so i get home and i toss on some tight jeans and a tight t-shirt (THAT ISN’T TIGHT ANYMORE *sob* [er sob that it isn’t tight, not that i’ve shrunk]) and head off to a little club on college for some dancing.

firstly? hcg is fucking hot when he’s not at the gym.

second? how weird is it that he climbs slow but dances fast? i know, i thought it was weird too. i would have expected that slow fluid dancing that the really good modern dancers do but he’s actually a lot faster and not as fluid.

that said? i don’t think either of us was particularly feeling the music last night. i got some good dancing in and stretched my body out but it wasn’t quite my cup of tea. interesting though that a lot of the african rhythms that i PLAY have made their way into house music.

so i would sort of pick up that underbeat (so to speak) and move on that. which i think led to some unexpected moves from me.

what an odd little bar too. it’s on the second floor and people mingle and sort of just dance wherever.

oh yeah. dzer. he’s NOT INTO ME THAT WAY. K? k. [lsd/hubris you’ve seen he and i together, would you concur?]

i’m all relieved. i have this tendency of underplaying the cheques i’m expecting so i won’t spend the whole thing before i get it. anyway i turn out to have underplayed one by like two hundred and fifty bucks so i’m suddenly WAY more okay until the end of the month than i thought i was.

can you say relief?

i can, it’s called extra big paycheques!

the maybe new teacher of my sunday class took my class this morning and i’m sort of concerned if she gets it. she doesn’t move mindfully enough. like not enough awareness of breath or some of the deep physical connections in the body.

that said? i’m not sure i’ll like ANYONE since i love that class and i don’t *really* want to give it up. and how she moves and how she teaches may not actually be related.

but oh… sunday mornings.

god what an orgasmic thought.

man it feels so good to have gone dancing. i wore my little shoes with the split in the sole and just danced my face off. it wasn’t as fun as if there had been african or cuban or south american music but it was pretty good.

the nice thing about that place it that it’s clearly the kind of place that you can show up alone and dance and leave and noone will even notice.

this is good because i am seriously underdanced lately.

what i should do is find a salsa club to dance at, then i can shimmy my whole body all i want and i’ll still be half as flamboyant as anyone else there. see it’s sort of difficult to dance in a regular club because i’m *so* overabundant in my gestures and i’m (i’ve been told) a really sensual dancer and i shimmy the shit out of my hips.

so yeah, the dirty old man factor is brutal.

there’s something about a dirty old married man staring at you with drool running out of the corner of his mouth that really tarnishes your enjoyment of an evening.

it makes it impossible to free your body to move how it likes… and if you can’t free your body you just can’t dance.

and if life gives you half a chance?

i truly hope you dance.

  1. Duuuuude… loving the dancing and all. For now my dancing is limited to chairdancing in the car while I am rocking out to the loud music and a little less obvious chairdancing when I am listening to the iPod while I mark assignments in my office…maybe I should go to a club at some point… maybe in NYC :)

Yeah indeed Sunday mornings in bed is quite the orgasmic thought… hehehe for more than one reason if you are not alone :)

Married men staring at women make me want to take a pic of them and send it to their wives…. erm…just a thought!

  2. nat: gawd it was great to let loose. turn out not to like dancing in those jeans though, too much pressure on the lower spine.

oh chairdancing is awesome. why can’t you do regular dancing?

sunday morning in a bed and not alone. wow. that is an even better thought… now just add chocolate *g*

man my favourite is the married men who do ‘the stroke’ … you know where they touch you right on the harassment line so you can’t say shit but you feel dirty and violated.

    yeah yumminess.

  3. I used to go out dancing a TON back in teh day – I was a major house music head. I um…enjoyed the occasional recreational substance, as well. :)

Mostly I liked the funky break beats where I could get in a groove and dance all frickin’ night.

Coincidentally my waist was a lot thinner back then…

  4. What is Darcy Tucker was the one doing the staring and the drooling and the touching? (go to google and type in “darcy tucker wife”)

The bad thing about Sunday mornings spent not alone is that God, the Boogieman and Santa are busy checking on who’s at church and who isn’t. You would risk getting put on both ba “naughty” list and enraging our Creator to cause a nasty birth control failure. Also the Boogieman’s a perv.

Nat, I’ve been meaning to say for a few days…breast reduction surgery??!! What WERE you thinking?? I want to cry just thinking about it!

    Comment by Mike — January 20, 2006 @ 2:22 pm | Reply

  5. matt: why don’t you dance? you don’t have to go out, pick up your kid, crank some tunes and dance your face off.

helps to teach the kid rhythm too.

yeah i like the funk, the straight up beatbox stuff doesn’t really do it for me at all.

mmmm thinner waist… my waist is thinner again :)

mike: i know he’s married, i just think he’s hot. if he were one of the men ogling me i would be a) flattered b) sad for his wife and c) over him.

well, i think god, the universe, the boogeyman and santa will allow me a day of rest. and sunday is supposed to be a day of REST not a day to get up early and go to church so you can listen to someone tell you how to live your life.

besides, i want a kid, what do i care about birth control failures?

and re breast reduction? when you’re getting ten pounds of tissue removed from your chest you’re doing the right thing and your back loves you for it.

i would hate to be in that position.

  6. I do every oncet in a while. Like last Saturday I had the house to myself for a bit and I did what I useta do as a teen. Cranked the tunes and danced like no one was watchin. :)

And then we’re going out tomorrow night – there will be dancin’, and I plan to partake.

The boy loves the music – he stands in place and bounces up and down, and I do it with him. He gets the greatest smile…

  7. oh man…i’m gonna be such a disappointment in nyc…i LOOK like i would do some serious cyote ugly dancing…but i’m way too cool to dance…*snort*

seriously, i get the creepy guys staring at me cuz they think they’ll get a view of some boney cuban arse-shakin…but i totally just nurse drink after drink and NEVER dance…i don’t know what my deal is, but i just dont dance…even when my girls drag me out to the floor…so embarrasing

anyhoo…on another note…what IS IT with othercat feeding you like this? does he have a brother? cuz i’m so skinny…i need a hot, platonic dude to make sure i get food…like good home-cooked food a couple of times a week.

  8. matt: all right so long as you let the rhythm move you on occasion. i think dancing is one of the best things you can do for/with your body actually.

yay dancing matt shaking it up with the wife. right on, have a blast dude.

your boy sounds awesome dude. course if he’s half as cool as his daddy that’s sorta inevitable.

jenn: oh please, i’m not disappointed in anyone. just because i randomly dance down the street to the music in my own head is no reason for you to do it.

boney cuban arse shakin’ … now *there* is a mental image for ya!

maybe you don’t feel music that way? i’ve been heard to say ‘i hear dancing’ which is just what it is to me. it goes in my ears and comes out in my hips.

othercat is my best friend and he happens to love to cook. i’m just really lucky he does that. as for the hot platonic dudes? this one has been with the same partner for over 20 years…

and i don’t want my platonic friends to be hot, i want my NON platonic friends to be hot *g*

  9. Not that I can’t do regular dancing but more like I can’t fucking stand the meat mrket that are clubs.

But I am down to go off and on.

  11. oh and dude…hot platonic friends, especially if they are gay rules more than i can describe…even if they are not gay, i love walking around with a hottie platonic friend…opens more doors than walking around with an ugloid.

wonder if anyone else going to nyc is too cool to dance…we can stand around and look all suicide girl. (kidding)

  12. i miss dancing….in clubs I mean. I do dance, with my daughter. It’s just not the same though! But I wouldn’t swap her for all the clubs in sydney…

  13. yaaay, dancing! i’ve just realized myself how underdanced (excellent word, btw) i’ve been lately and it felt so GOOD to be out on the dance floor again. twice in a week, unexpectedly.

y’all are going to have SO much fun in nyc. i know of a great chilean restaurant (which makes amazing mojitos) that you should try.

    Comment by terry — January 20, 2006 @ 10:19 pm | Reply

  14. nat: ah yes i sympathise. i too am fully over the meat market and yet somehow i still want to go dancing. there’s a great latin club here i don’t go to cause of that.

oh man. that sounds soooo good.

    no dude, so good.

    jenn: word.

oh and dude i see what you’re saying. but it only works if they’re gay. or if they have some sort of deal breaker issue. otherwise doesn’t it just get all unrequited love and shit?

dude don’t be too cool to dance, life’s too short.

deb: it’s not the same but it rocks in it’s totally own way right?

terry: nice nice! (thanks, i hadn’t even noticed that i invented it)

nice to go dance dude, i just have to go MORE now… but for better music!

why don’t you come to nyc?

  15. underdanced is a cool term …

I think I’m donedanced … used up all my dancin’ back in the day …

and gotcha on the hcg thing … :)

  16. sass…in my experience, cuz i’m an intellectual whore, just having a hottie friend doesn’t cause any unrequited issues (at least not for me)…for some serious unrequited angst he’s gotta be hella brilliant+adorable…a very rare combo indeed. pretty boys are everywhere, truly brilliant men are kinda hard to find (thank gawd)…the search is definitely half the fun…

    yikes! that sounded very hunterish…am i a man in a woman’s body?

oh and re: feeling the music that way…i do. still not dancing unless its in my chair…hehehe

  19. dzer: thanks, i’m proud of it. :)

oh dude never be donedanced… dancing is one of the foods of life.

jenn: oh sorry, when you said hottie i automagically assumed that the brilliant/adorable was included.

nope, you’re a woman who’s ready to look around for someone new to date.

okay dance in your chair… but that sucks dude.

    nerd: yay!

    oh that’s even better :)

cast: i haven’t seen her dance so i can’t comment.

that said, fuck you you aren’t old.

    shake shake shake!

shake yo’ boooty! WOO!! shake dat boooooty!

i haven’t been dancing in ages….but that is perhaps due to the fact..uhh…i suck!

okay i don’t. i can shake my ass fairly well ( people have even told me i can)…i just prefer to make fun of everyone else trying :)

  21. I can’t really remember the last time I went dancing… I think the last time I was at a club on a Sat night where I coulda/shoulda been dancing was over a year ago, and I didn’t dance. Too self-conscious to be in South Beach with my uncomfortable shoes and big ass and ugh, yeah.

But you… you rock on. Ignore the old guys. And in NY, we’ll go (notice the we when at the mo I still have no idea if I’ll manage it or not) to the Copa, which is like the oldest salsa dancing club EVER and the old men are not dirty but they are FANTASTIC dancers and they just want to spin around with a pretty lady for a song or two.

  22. elle: there’s only one way to become a better dancer and that’s to DANCE. (well or years of pilates/tai chi/yoga) :)

besides who gives a shit if you suck, dance anyway.

that said… it’s really fun to make fun of bad dancers. i just do it in my head WHILE i’m dancing :)

JM: oh man bad shoes are the worst when you’re dancing. worse even then jeans that are too tight … though mine are tight and press on the sacrum which actually hurts my spine the next day. sucks cause i love those jeans and they’re easy to dance in but they hurt me :(

you know it’s easy to ignore the old guys until you’re IN their social circle and you see the same guy lookin’ at you the same way every single time you dance.

as for the copa? oh my god YES let’s DO IT!!!

  26. DDs here too…EEK!!

so this is the REAL reason i don’t dance standing up…i’m super tall (5’10”) and always wear heels and most guys end up just talking to the girls…

    that aint cool.

actually, the DDs are prolly now shrinking down to D since this blasted breakup…aint complaining tho.

feeling like this was maybe one of those TMI posts…

  27. “besides who gives a shit if you suck, dance anyway.”

i was just thinking the same thing. dancing IS one of the foods of life. i dance around my apartment all the time.

yes, i’m well aware that i am a dork.

as for nyc, i don’t think i can swing it this year, but thanks for suggesting it…! and i look forward to living vicariously through all of you.

    Comment by terry — January 21, 2006 @ 8:14 pm | Reply

  28. jenn: i was up to an F after my accident (really a DD just some weird french style) and now i’m into a C/D and god it’s so much better.

for your sake i hope the girls shrink a little.

and uh yeah i’m 5’11 and i wear flat sneakers and dance all night. but i would dance in heels too if my feet would speak to me in the morning (i’m the one who takes her shoes off and then dances…)

    tmi is all good.

dude if they talk to the girls you know they’re not worth talking to *shrug* good signal right?

terry: heh i thought you might agree. you seem like the type who would dance down a street regardless of the existence of music.

i was dancing last night while making a mixed tape for my car and repotting plants.

if you discover you can swing it then come on down with us.

  29. I danced with G tonight after the NC State/Wake Forest Game. There was a band playing at the restaurant we went to, I spun her around a few times, she thought it was good. I was going to teach her how to do the dirty gator, but that will have to wait.

Oyster Stew followed by a dozen Oysters Rockefeller is oyster overload.

  30. wow.

no matter how much weight i lose or gain…i’ve been a DD since i was 17

not sure if that’s good or bad…..but it could be because i had so much trauma and surgery body just leaves it be

  31. cast: nice!

that sounds like WAY too much oysters… and i like the fucking things.

elle: there’s two kinds of boobs. those that grow and shrink with you and those that pick a size and stay.

i’m the second and you’re the first. both have advantages and disadvantages.

and yeah your body tends to bandage hurt places with fat so i can see that one too.

Holla for the big pay checks!
Holla for the shirt that doesn’t fit you!!!

Holla for the two 40%’s making 100.

aww man… we’re going dancing in New York… you pick the place.

Now, dirty married men… I have experience with that… in fact i have one. Ummm, he drools a lot.
alright well yeah, it kinda makes you uncomfortable… I just say wtf and let the poor guy use me for his fantasies if he wants. Especially since um unfortunately maybe the last few times I’d been dancing has been a blatent display of bi-sexuality on the dancefloor.

So, I cant knock him. umm.

But if he fucking touches me? He dies.

    This comment sucked… I love u.

i love that shirt and i’m REALLY sad it’s too big and no longer one of my ‘hey look at my boobs’ shirts but i’m sure glad i shrunk out of it instead of the alternative.

hey i wore my shrug today and HELLO it’s a hit.

dude we are SO going dancing. maybe even dirty dancing cause i love doing that with women who can dance. it’s so much fun.

hey i don’t mind the guy using me for his fantasies but his wife is standing there watching and looking broken hearted. i don’t need that shit on me.

and since it’s a social circle? what can i do.

this comment didn’t suck. what is up with you thinking that about your comments?
