snapshots of an idle mind

i hate when people tell you off for something after you’ve already dealt with it.

see the problem? see how it’s all solved nicely and wrapped in a pretty little bow? exactly. so why are you yelling again?

even more annoying is when people are so sure i’m going to fight with them about some transgression of theirs that even after i’ve said ‘it’s fine’ they go ahead and have the fight anyway.

and no matter how i try and try to tell them i’m not mad? they have to have the fight. have to. i have to be mad.

seriously what is UP with that?

i hate trying to deal with city works. i call, i’m not even done talking and she’s already transferring me. why does this SUCK? because i was JUST talking to the fucking people she transferred me to and they’re now closed for the day.

so here i am trying again.

“all of our agents are currently busy, please hold as your call is important to us…”

no it isn’t, if it were in fact important to you you would have answered by now. more than that? you would have let me finish my god damm sentence instead of transferring me because you assumed you knew why i was calling.

guy number two was much better. he told me they don’t have a permit. now i have a gripe and they’re getting a citation. not to mention i feel perfectly justified moving their fence off my parking spot.

fuckers. taking up three parking spots out of eighteen on one street. with no permit.

i have this weird allergy/cold thingy where i’m coughing phlegm sounding things and sniffling and totally having nasal drip and and and.. but my eyes, ears and head are clear.

am i sick?
do i have allergies?

who fucking knows????

i just know i’m weak, i feel faint when i exercise and need like twelve hours of sleep a night.

who the fuck has that kind of time?

i wish people wouldn’t tell me what to do after i’m the one who told them the trick.

if i point out to you that you could work a little on something-or-other and it will help your movement?

don’t pass me the same fucking advice a week later.

don’t pass it on if you didn’t actually understand it.

if i tell you to get the fuck out of my apartment so i can get a back rub before i go to bed?

it is NOT an invitation to stay for another hour.

i’m just saying.

i am so far behind on my email that i’ve given up. if i owe you email?

good luck.

dear body

would you mind terribly picking a temperature? this random shedding and piling on of clothes combined with random window opening alternating with heater cranking?

not doing it for me.

nope, not at all. seriously now pick a temperature. if you can’t manage that i’ll have to cover you in insulation again and you know damm well we don’t want to do THAT ever again right?

hey *poke poke*

well that explains the ice cream cravings.

i’m sorry you miss your insulation dear ass, suck it up cause it ain’t comin’ back if i can help it.

what is up with the fucking alive emoticons. if i type colon right bracket i want to see :) not some pretty little yellow bouncing smiley face. just :)

did i ask for the help?

the very *least* they could do is let me turn them OFF!!!

oh my god i fucking love this chocolate.

damm i owe curious some chocolate…

poulain how i love thee and thine ‘eclats de cafe’ candied coffee dark chocolate madness.

oh fuck that wasn’t a rant.

why do people ask for your opinion if they don’t want it?

no, seriously, if you ask me for my opinion about your health or movement or general physical whatever as a relative expert you could at least listen to me when i’m talking.

just don’t ask in the first place. and when i tell you what i think? please don’t argue with me or try to correct me. especially when you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. if you *do* know what you’re talking about then maybe we could discuss instead of you asking and then trying to smack me down.

k? k.

dear universe.

thank you for poulain chocolate.

[fyi you can get it here and you don’t need to order it from france, but the article is good]

  1. do you have any advice for someone looking for good chocolate? especially if that someone doesn’t have a chocolate-eating permit? ;)

  2. learn to love dark chocolate… less calories and the flavour is richer and lasts longer so you eat less.

  3. God, I’m so glad to have some sass before bed. Thanks for posting tonight, only now I’ve got to eat some chocolate before I’ll be able to sleep.

  4. You know, Sass, if you really like chocolate and are trying to prevent that “insulation” from coming back, you should try dark chocolate. I heard somewhere that it has less calories and the flavor is richer. Plus it lasts longer so you eat less. ;-)

Also, the most likely reason that operator transfered you so quickly is because his/her performance is probably measured in average handle time and call turnover. I formerly worked in a call center environment handling billing for a large telecommunications company. Our calls were randomly monitored for “quality assurance” and of the long list of criteria we had to meet, cover, recite, etc, less than 2% of the overall score depended on whether or not we actually helped the customer. Since this environment is very heavily performance based, the employees were actually being rewarded for not helping people and just dumping them back into the queue. I have a suspicion that the same thing is going on with the company that you talked to as well.

  5. I just don’t like dark chocolate….I keep trying it and I make that icky face…’s just bad.

    What were we talking about?

Oh yes, your rants….loved them…rant away

  6. You have as much anger stored up in you, as I do…I tell you one thing, if you ever tell me anything, I promise to do what the fuck you say. There will be no, in a minutes…just one more thing..because frankly…you scare me. Scare me in a good way, lol. I rarely give advice in the gym because people don’t want to hear it. They are doing an exercise poorly, or cheating on it for a reason…because it is easier. They don’t really want to know the right way…but they will be the first to bitch when their bench does not go up…or their little biceps are still little. Oh yeah…any guy that can wear an ipod around his bicep, and does…needs to rethink the whole weight training thing…

  7. kathi: i’m glad you found the sass before bed… it sure seemed like a nighttime post to me :)

    mmmmmmmmm chocolate.

    john: :P

and it doesn’t satisfy ice cream cravings… well not always.

when i worked in a call centre we got in trouble if our calls were too short as well. but not all call centres are created equal. but she was like ‘that’s parking i’ll transfer you’ and i never even got to say ‘but’ before i was gone… to a department that was closed for the day. i mean that’s extra obnoxious isn’t it?

kris: i was like that until i hit about thirty and then my tastes radically changed. that and not all dark chocolate is created equal…

thanks! it’s fun to rant on occasion

  8. I meant to ask you if I can link ya’?

    Comment by Kristen — May 24, 2006 @ 9:31 am | Reply

  9. cas: i have more anger than i like to admit for sure but less of it all the time… it’s interesting learning to let it go but i’m getting better at it.

i am learning to put on blinders at gyms. i walk in, teach, walk out. i can’t look because it hurts too much. i look at my regulars and give them pointers because they listen to me.

ipod… bicep *giggle* (only okay when cycling)

kris: no need to ask … especially since i linked you last week *grin* do you prefer kj or kristen?

  10. wordy mcword on all of it.

Sometimes people WANT a fight. Sometimes it’s the need for drama, or connection, even if a negative one. Sometimes they are upset for something else and can’t say that and just need an outlet for the frustration. Know what I mean, Jelly Bean?

And I have seen it so many times, people giving me or others advice I gave them as if it were their own and sometimes not even knowing what it is they are saying. It is scary. This happens in Academia a lot. We are constantly looking for new ways to make points, tips on discipline in the classroom. So I am used to advice circulating. But in a small college, I am sure to give credit where credit is due. It’s just the right thing to do.

Hope you feel better soon, dollface.

  11. There is a special place in hell for voicemail system engineers.

Just once I’d like to call up a place and hear “Your call is so unimportant to us that we couldn’t be fucked to hire a human to answer the phone. Please listen to this obnoxious music for 10 mins while staring vacantly at the wall, then proceed to stab random buttons on your phone till the system hangs up on you. Noone will get back to you. Have a good day.” *click*

The worst tho… The absolute worst, is when the phone rings… You pick it up. Hello? “Hello. You are receiving an important call from… Joe’s Plumbing Supply. Please hold for the first available salesperson.”

WTF!?!?! Having a computer call me to put me into a queue to talk to a salesman. In my little world, that’s a pipe-bombable offence. Lookout Joe’s plumbing… Hope you’re insured! :p

  12. chocolate sounds delish at the moment.

i love calling during lunch, when they say “we’re experiencing an unusually high volume of callers at the moment, please go to our website for more prompt customer care”…

uhm, don’t fucking lie! say “our fat ass call tech’s are eating lunch right now, so why don’t you call back in an hour when they’re done”

    Comment by Kristen — May 24, 2006 @ 1:21 pm | Reply

  15. nat: i don’t get ranty very often but when i do… :)

yeah i totally don’t understand that thing where people have to fight regardless of how i’m actually responding. like it makes no sense at all. i think you’re right, that sometimes they just want to see if you feel anything at all. excellent way to make the long term answer be no.

i try really hard to credit the advice i give to it’s source and sometimes i get dissed for it… like i should claim it as my own. uh no, i’m passing it on.

    thanks babe, me too!

‘mute: that apostrophe is killing the recent comments…

and yes, there really is. that fucking computer that leaves me voice mail is nearly as evil as the one that calls me up whenever it likes to put me on hold. i mean who thinks anyone listens to those???

i’m trying to imagine you with a pipe bomb…

elle: it was… tragically i ate it all.

i hate how at the bank the second there’s a lineup one of the tellers goes on lunch!

terry: yes it is! i WANTED my frustration to be funny…

    mmmm poulain :)

kj: coo’ i’ll leave you kj then

  16. Yum dark choc is the best. There is this lovely venezuelan choc that’s about 71% cocoa I think that they sell in Whole Foods. It’s some ridiculous price per lb so that even a small chunk is worth a king’s ransom but it’s so lovely.

I hate being sick. I’ve been feeling headachey and feverish but I think it’s just stress. I don’t have time to be sick so I know what you mean about the 12-hour sleeps.

  18. jmai: oh damm dude that sounds awesome. i’ve had chocolate from a bunch of places and one of my clients is actually a chocolatier. i need to try his stuff!

i regularly spend 4-6 bucks on a chocolate bar… is that a lot? (100gram bar)

yeah i don’t mind being sick but this is a VERY bad time. fortunately my body appears to agree with me.

    hunee: *huggs*

    thanks, i did :)

yeah what is up with that moving emoticon bullshit?

    Comment by sassinak — May 25, 2006 @ 1:46 am | Reply

  19. I think $4-6 (either US or Canadian) on a chocolate bar is about right IF you’re buying the quality chocolate. And the good news is, when you’re spending that much, you’re savouring it and not overindulging in it… which is so easy to do when there’s chocolate around!! But also, the very rich, dark choc is so satisfying that I usually don’t need more than a little chunk to suck on while I watch tv at night.

  20. There are these Cocoa Via thingies that my WW leader kept talking about. A coworker who is doing the program bought them and we all loved them…until she told us that a box was $5. And the box contains 5 bars. And the bars are tiny. But there is this chocolate they sell at Whole Foods that is sooooo yummy. They are called Chocolove. The raspberries one is delish.

    Ahhh craving.

  21. H’okay. Apostrophe is gone. Hopefully I’ll show up now. :)
Lol, ya… Not so easy to imagine me with explosives and destructive intent… But then it’s always the quite ones, isn’t it… *grins evilly*

Y’all should try Bernard Callebaut chocolate. It is, hands down, the best chocolate I’ve ever had.

    Comment by Da Mute — May 25, 2006 @ 10:38 am | Reply

  22. jmai: yeah i think so too. and you’re right, i very rarely eat a whole one in a sitting, it’s nearly always just a chunk or two…

i have to be careful if i’m high… then i can eat too much…

nat: okay that’s it i’m hitting whole foods, between you and jmai geeze…

i have a store in the basement of the saint lawrence market that sells the best chocolate you can get from all over the place… but clearly i need to visit whole foods :)

mute: yay you show up in the recent comments!

i’m still trying to picture the pipe bomb AND the evil grin and neither is working… well the evil grin a little…

you know most chocolatiers use callebaut chocolate… so yeah i’m down with trying the original…
